Why First Lutheran School?
|
In the United States, schooling begins with kindergarten, when a child is about five years old. While many of the activities in kindergarten are play activities-like singing, storytelling, and drawing-children are also learning basic skills through these activities that they will need throughout their lives. These skills include listening to directions, using their time well, and working in cooperation with others. Kindergarten helps children adjust to school slowly, and bridges the gap between the age when kids spend their days playing (at home, or in daycare or nursery school) and the more formal learning that will begin once a child enters the first grade. A German educator name Friedrich Froebel opened the first kindergarten in 1837. Its name is German for "garden of children." |
